Lupin Organizes Musical Session
KGPite's spouses are more active than ever. Perhaps that is one of the
reasons why we like them so much. A gala musical program was organized by
Lupin Chatterjee on 11/28/00. It was held at Alok and Lupin's home in
Irvine. Over a hundred guests were present
to witness the singing debut of their fifteen year old daughter Anurupa
(Rimi), a student of Usha Sathe of the Kirana Gharana. Rimi, as we all
fondly call her, gave a stellar performance, delighting the gathering with her
semi classical renderings. Rimi was accompanied on the tabla by Siddharth
Jain, a fifteen year old prodigy and a disciple of the maestro Ustad Zakir
Hussain. Their performance would provide definite impetus and encouragement
for the younger generation to get involved in the fine art of Indian music.
The musical session, continued with other accomplished singers like Arijit
Bal, Aparna Chakrabarty, Ashok Talwar, Suresh Makhijani and our own Lupin &
Alok. Samar Das provided an excellent Tabla support throughout the evening
for these singers. Dinner was catered by India Cook House in Irvine. Alok and
Lupin would like to make this annual event and would encourage IIT KGP talent
to get involved.
